How To Use Challenges As Our Best Friends

Our thoughts shape our actions, and our actions shape our destiny. Negative thinking affects our reality, our life, and our level of success, limiting our potential.

When we are afraid of something, the first things we impulsively tell ourselves is “I can’t deal with that,” “Maybe I’m not ready to deal with it,” “I think I’m not good enough to face this.”  And what happens? Well, it’s pretty simple: it happens that we don’t even try to overcome our fear. Also, what happens here is that we think we cannot do something, and this thought prevents us from taking action. We lose plenty of opportunities when we live our daily life with this mindset.

What to do

The first step we should take instead, is to face the obstacle immediately. The obstacle in this case is our negative thought. And how do we face a negative thought? We have two options:

  1. replacing it with a positive thought immediately, and take action;
  2. ignoring it, improvising something and behaving as if we actually have control.

Whatever the choice is, we have to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. So, which are the steps to do that?

Steps to get out of our comfort zone:

  1. Ignore or replace any negative thoughts: This first step is the easiest one. We just have to stop letting negative thoughts and feelings take over, and switch immediately to the second step, which is…
  2. Take action: It’s important to take the first step. This can be any small step, like building a simple and small habit.
  3. You did it! Before we even realize it, we did something we thought we couldn’t do. And this is actually a first step to build a healthy self-confidence, that will help us step out of our comfort zone in the future.

Actually, doing what we think we cannot do, is the key to real growth. Leaving our comfort zone and pushing ourselves beyond our limits, is the key to improvement. Normally, people think that progress means living the life they are supposed to live, going from being a child to being a teenager, from being an adult to retiring, and the majority of people live this way. People do not even ask themselves if they can do more, if they can live a better life or if they can be happier.

Real growth is not about being how we are supposed to be; it is not about being as others want us to be. Real personal growth is unleashing our potential and going beyond our limits. It means thinking outside the box, always, looking at ourselves from unusual perspectives.

The only way to unleash our potential is to stop overthinking, and take action; the first step is the simplest one, but also the hardest one. And it’s worth a try: once we take that step, we impress ourselves with how far we can go, and how much we can achieve, despite all the people who told us that we couldn’t because it was “impossible.”

If you want to learn about life or about people, if you want to become wiser, to open your mind or to train you mind, reading is the best way to spend your time.

Sometimes books have the power to inspire and help us find the way to shift our life, and I believe that they have the potential to help us achieve success.
Reading is the ideal hobby for avid and curious life learners, and I find that books about personal growth, psychology and life, can teach a lot, and sometimes they can add more to our life than an expensive presential course.

So, I want to share with you the books that changed me and forced me to rethink my attitude towards life, and that I consider extremely inspiring:

9 Things you Should Do Every Day

There are some habits that can significantly improve the quality of our lives.
In particular, today I want to share with you the 9 things that I find incredibly helpful for our challenging days.

1. Read

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

It’s important to “feed” our mind with books, it keeps our brain fit and young, and it prevents dementia.
Also, it makes us wiser!

2. Exercise

We already talked a lot about the benefits of exercise.
Being a form of preventing diseases, it improves our brain performance, and keeps our body healthy.
So, it benefits both mind and body, which are strictly related.

3. Meditate

Regular meditation is one of the best habits you could ever develop.
As exercise, it’s extremely good both for your body and for your mind.
Plus, research showed that meditation develops some parts of our brain and strengthens the connections between neurons, in the long run.

4. Eat every 3 hours

This is very important, it gives us the right energy to perform appropriately all our tasks throughout the day, and helps accelerate our metabolism.

5. Eat one apple

Eating one apple a day is a rule. It’s a very healthy habit and it helps preventing diseases and to boost your brain performance.

6. Take a walk

Did you know that Steve Jobs used to walk every day for 1 or 2 hours?
Not only is it good to control your weight and tone your legs, but it benefits your mental performance and your mood.

7. Spend time on a hobby

Hobbies are a good tool to reduce stress and a good way to invest time in ourselves.
It’s important to spend time on something we really like to do, and I believe that not having hobbies in our life may affect our happiness.

8. Listen to music

Listening to music has the power to instantly change our mood.
This is why we should use it every day to add more energy and passion to what we do.

9. Drink green tea

This is obviously a very healthy habit.
Green tea contains B vitamins, magnesium, potassium and other antioxidants.
Also, it seems that it has a very positive impact on some kinds of cancer, even though it has not been demonstrated that green tea prevents so far.

You don’t need to do all these things every single day, but you should make sure to include all of them in your week and to spend some time on 3 or 4 of them every day.
However, some of these habits, such as eating every 3 hours, meditation and eating one apple a day, should be included in your daily plan.

Also, there are some habits that you can alternate, for example you can take a walk one day and exercise the other.

How to Find Energy and Motivation: 3 Tips

We all dream to accomplish a lot in life, but then for some reasons we can’t stand out from the crowd, and we wonder why. This is because we may need more time, more motivation, and more energy.
Actually, we already have the time, we only have to improve the way we manage it.
But, what about energy and motivation?
In this article I will give you 3 very simple tips to boost your energy and your motivation, in order to increase esponentially your productivity.

1. An apple a day…

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

Apples contain pectin, which lowers both blood pressure and glucose levels, boron, that supports strong bones and a healthy brain, and vitamin C, that boosts immunity, which helps maintain overall health.
But even more important, apples help boost brain power.
Apples are one of the foods that health experts say will help you think clearly, boost your memory and of course contribute to overall good health.
To help your brain funcion, be sure to eat your apples with their skins on since that’s where you’ll find most of their quercetin, which primary benefit is having a high amount of antioxidants.

2. Walk every day

Research has shown that regular walking has lots of benefits.
Some of them are the following:
– It reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke.Walking
– It can help prevent dementia: being active has a protective effect on brain function and regular exercise reduces dementia risk by up to 40 per cent.
– It tones your legs – especially if you add hills.
– If you’re walking outside in daylight, you’ll be boosting your body’s stores of vitamin D – a nutrient that’s hard to get from food, but that we can synthesise from exposure to sunlight, that improves our mood and our overall health.
– The ability of exercise to boost mood is undisputed – just 10 minutes of walking can boost your mood for 2 hours. Getting active releases feel-good endorphins into the bloodstream, and this significantly reduces stress and anxiety.
– Walking regularly helps losing weight.
– We think and learn better when we walk or do another form of exercise – research has shown that when we exercise, blood pressure and blood flow increase everywhere in the body, including the brain.
More blood means more energy and oxygen, which makes our brain perform better.

3. Listen to music

So don’t forget to listen to music every day.
Music has the power to improve your efficiency and to change your mood in a moment – but please, remember to avoid sad and depressing songs, otherwise music could negatively affect your day.
One thing I strongly recommend is to listen to music while walking, it will boost your mood and it will give you a lot of energy – and walking won’t be boring!
Whatever you are doing, if you want to listen to music in the morning before starting your day, I suggest you to listen to something energetic (Rock, Pop, Commercial Latin…).
While, if you want to listen to some music in the afternoon after work, I would listen to something more relaxing (for example: Cinematic Orchestra, Ludovico Einaudi, Buddha Bar, Gotan Projet…).One apple a day, walking everyday (or almost everyday) and listening to music.
If you start including these 3 simple but effective habits in your life, you will notice how this will significantly improve your productivity and your wellness, adding energy to your day and boosting your motivation.
