How To Increase Your Self-Esteem

What you accomplish every day is to your self-esteem, what water is to your life.
– Sara Maya Smith

Everyone has goals. However, committing to the right goals and being able to achieve them is what shows who you really are. In other words, if we dedicate our time and our efforts to anything we like, we have far too many objectives to reach. And guess what? We are not able to reach all of them and we feel frustrated, and this has a negative impact on our self-esteem.

As a result, the value that we give to ourselves in a similar situation is quite low, and we feel worthless, because we feel that we’re not able to keep a promise to ourselves.  Instead, if we choose to select only a few goals, and we focus on and commit to them, we make possible their achievement, and we feel much better.

Proving our value to ourselves is essential for our self-confidence and the way we feel.  And the best way to do it, is by being consistent and taking action every day, taking all those small steps that will take us to our long-term and bigger accomplishments. The moment we start to see the first results, our self-esteem slowly starts to increase, and reaches a higher level every time we achieve a long-term goal.

So in a nutshell, the steps to increase your self-esteem are:

  • Identify your goals.
  • Focus on a selected number of goals.
  • Identify which are the steps to reach those goals.
  • Take action every day and move toward your goals.
  • Be consistent.
  • Don’t give up.

If you follow these steps, you will automatically feel satisfied, and this will have a great impact on your self-confidence.

It’s not easy to attain the desired results, but with the right motivation and self-discipline everything is possible. And it’s definitely something that anyone can learn.

3 Simple Truths About Success

Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.
– Benjamin Franklin

Success doesn’t come overnight

Have you ever thought about the high level of success you could attain, if only you spent one hour a day improving your skills and abilities?
Have you ever thought where you could be now, if only you started to work for your goals one year ago? And what if you started five years ago?
You see, it’s all about small steps, consistency and motivation. When we know what we want, we can reach any goal, if we take action.
But we have to work for it: success doesn’t come overnight, and unleashing our potential requires hard work and determination.

Discipline is the only predictor of success, no shortcuts!

If you really want to shift your life, you have to behave as if you were your own employer.
You need to be a demanding employer with yourself, and you need to be a highly responsible employee at the same time, working as if you you had a demanding boss always controlling you.
You need discipline, because real accomplishments come with patience, perseverance and hard work.

Organization is the key

Step-by-step improvement is a simple concept, but if you don’t get organized, you can make it difficult, and you might feel overwhelmed, nervous, and frustrated, because you don’t even know where to start.
The simplest way to structure your life is writing down all the things you have to do, and organize your life daily. You can use a to-do list, your agenda, or a blackboard, but the most important thing is to write down everything, in order to avoid mental stress.

Practice the philosophy of continuous improvement. Get a little bit better every single day.

The Real Gap Between Success and Failure

The world is giving you answers each day, learn to listen.
— Unknown

Anytime we are working on something, we can either listen to positive and constructive feedback and improve, or let negative people bring us down.

The mental process that can put us both on the right or the wrong path – that is, success or failure – is represented in a nice infographic below.

The Art of Getting What You Want: The 3P Factor

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.
– Colin Powell

Have you ever heard of the Giant Bamboo story?
If you listen to the story, I’m sure you will immediately understand how important it can be in your life, and how much you can learn from it.
Watch this video, and then feel free to share your experience in the comments.

The underlying message of this video is:

“Even though you can’t see concrete results right now, don’t stop, don’t give up, just keep moving forward, you will receive a reward at the end of your journey. But please, don’t stop!”

So, what is this video about?

The man in the video was working hard, but he somehow started to feel discouraged, as he could not see immediate results. That is, he didn’t feel as he was developing himself and he hadn’t seen any meaningful achievement for a while.
This doesn’t mean he wasn’t producing any outcome. He was working on his personal growth, and his better version of himself was growing a little bit every day “under the ground”, but he didn’t know that. He just couldn’t see it.

His mentor explained to him that even though he couldn’t see results or concrete achievements yet, he was learning and developing himself. This process was necessary for his potential to grow.

With this video, we saw that “daily watering” – that is, small daily actions and good habits – is the most important thing.
All those small steps that contribute to our personal growth, or to the development of a project, make a small difference every day. And they are the key to big accomplishments.
Over time, they become realized in a sudden and surprising growth. If we know this, we are already on the right path to get where we want.

When we work hard, we’ll necessarily experience a period of time in which we can’t see an outcome.
During that period it’s vital to remember that we are building something big, and we can’t stop.

The 3P Factor: the art of getting what you want

When we want to succeed in something, we absolutely need the appropriate knowledge and the right skills, but that’s not enough. That’s probably 50% of what we need: it’s also essential to have the right mindset and attitude.

This is actually what makes the difference, because in order to reach our goals we need those qualities that boost our personal growth. And I’m referring to those features that give us the strength to get exactly where we want: perseverance and patience. These two elements together are what we need to make things simpler, possible and attainable. When we learn to be patient and to never give up, we start overcoming our limits and our fears.

When we understand that sometimes delayed gratifications are better than immediate rewards, we start learning and practicing patience and perseverance in our life.
We start doing things we were scared of, and little by little we start to unleash our potential.

3P stands for…

The 3P Factor is the magic combination of:

  1. Patience,
  2. Perseverance and
  3. Potential

Patience is the ability to get rid of the need of seeing results immediately.
In other words is the ability to wait for delayed gratification and to give up on immediate pleasure or lower value gratification.

Perseverance is the ability to be resilient and to keep going without stopping, even when we lose hope.

Potential is the set of skills and abilities that could lead us to realize our dreams, but we need to “activate” it by taking action, being patient and persistent.

These three elements together are what helps us and supports us when we can’t see results and consequently feel discouraged, they are what takes us beyond our limits even when we don’t believe in ourselves anymore.

Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.

-Robert H. Schuller

If the key to getting what we want is being persistent – with patience – it’s important to know how to improve our perseverance.

And to do that we must remember that if we “water” our potential it with patience, perseverance, good habits and small daily actions, we can reach almost anything, and we can develop the art of getting what we want.

Sometimes great achievements arrive later than we expect, but they arrive, and they are great.
All we have to do is patiently persevere in maximizing our potential.

The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.

If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It

If you can dream it, you can do it.
Walt Disney

Every time I read this Walt Disney’s quote, I get my small daily dose of motivation.

I think this quote gives you that nice and empowering feeling of being able to achieve whatever you want. But that goal that you want to achieve, has to be a dream and not just a whim. It’s essential to have a dream and strongly believe that you can bring it into reality.

The Importance of Having a Dream

With dream, I’m not referring to become a millionaire overnight, that would be quite unrealistic 🙂

I’m talking about that exciting idea in our head that makes us get up excited and motivated every morning, that makes us work hard to achieve something. Having a dream is powerful. A dream is that thing that we want so badly that we would do whatever it takes to achieve it. We wouldn’t find excuses to relax and give up on it.

If realistic and used wisely, a dream can give us that strong motivation, that discipline, resilience and willpower, that no one and nothing else would be able to give us.

We all have dreams, and we should use them to reach our biggest goals. Having a dream means being motivated. And being motivated is dangerous – but in a good way. When you are motivated you can achieve (almost) anything!

Your Power

Motivation is something that guides humans every day, but if we don’t have a dream, we have no motivation.

We should all make sure to have something that motivates us, because motivation creates that invisible force that gives us enough self-discipline and patience to be consistent, especially when we feel like giving up.

We are like cars, and dreams are our fuel: without them we would keep staying in the same place, trying to start a car that will never move. While, when we really want something, we do move and we become unstoppable.

Have you ever made a dream come true? Feel free to share your experience in the comments! 🙂

How To Use Challenges As Our Best Friends

Don’t be afraid of challenges, let them take you somewhere new, relax and be awesome.
– Sara Maya Smith

Our thoughts shape our actions, and our actions shape our destiny. Negative thinking affects our reality, our life, and our level of success, limiting our potential.

When we are afraid of something, the first things we impulsively tell ourselves is “I can’t deal with that,” “Maybe I’m not ready to deal with it,” “I think I’m not good enough to face this.”  And what happens? Well, it’s pretty simple: it happens that we don’t even try to overcome our fear. Also, what happens here is that we think we cannot do something, and this thought prevents us from taking action. We lose plenty of opportunities when we live our daily life with this mindset.

What to do

The first step we should take instead, is to face the obstacle immediately. The obstacle in this case is our negative thought. And how do we face a negative thought? We have two options:

  1. replacing it with a positive thought immediately, and take action;
  2. ignoring it, improvising something and behaving as if we actually have control.

Whatever the choice is, we have to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. So, which are the steps to do that?

Steps to get out of our comfort zone:

  1. Ignore or replace any negative thoughts: This first step is the easiest one. We just have to stop letting negative thoughts and feelings take over, and switch immediately to the second step, which is…
  2. Take action: It’s important to take the first step. This can be any small step, like building a simple and small habit.
  3. You did it! Before we even realize it, we did something we thought we couldn’t do. And this is actually a first step to build a healthy self-confidence, that will help us step out of our comfort zone in the future.

Actually, doing what we think we cannot do, is the key to real growth. Leaving our comfort zone and pushing ourselves beyond our limits, is the key to improvement. Normally, people think that progress means living the life they are supposed to live, going from being a child to being a teenager, from being an adult to retiring, and the majority of people live this way. People do not even ask themselves if they can do more, if they can live a better life or if they can be happier.

Real growth is not about being how we are supposed to be; it is not about being as others want us to be. Real personal growth is unleashing our potential and going beyond our limits. It means thinking outside the box, always, looking at ourselves from unusual perspectives.

The only way to unleash our potential is to stop overthinking, and take action; the first step is the simplest one, but also the hardest one. And it’s worth a try: once we take that step, we impress ourselves with how far we can go, and how much we can achieve, despite all the people who told us that we couldn’t because it was “impossible.”

Remember: IMPOSSIBLE = I’M POSSIBLE 🙂

Wayne Walter Dyer’s Best Lessons

As many of you already know, the world has lost one of the most inspiring and incredible men of this century, one of the best motivational speakers and best-selling authors of all times, Wayne Walter Dyer.
He passed away on August 29th, at the age of 75, and according to his family, he died in his sleep.

Since he brought a lot to my life and inspired me a lot during the last years, I deeply desire to share with you his most beautiful and important quotes about life, love, happiness and success.

  1. “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”
  2. “With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.”
  3. “You cannot be lonely if you like the person you’re alone with.”
  4. “You are not stuck where you are unless you decide to be.”
  5. “Passion is a feeling that tells you: this is the right thing to do. Nothing can stand in my way. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. This feeling is so good that it cannot be ignored. I’m going to follow my bliss and act upon this glorious sensation of joy.”
  6. “All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much fault you find with
another, and regardless of how much you blame him, it will not change
you. The only thing blame does is to keep the focus off you when you
are looking for external reasons to explain your unhappiness or
frustration. You may succeed in making another feel guilty about
something by blaming him, but you won’t succeed in changing whatever it
is about you that is making you unhappy. ”
  7. “Your reputation is in the hands of others. That’s what the reputation is. You can’t control that. The only thing you can control is your character.”
  8. “When the choice is to be right or to be kind, always make the choice that brings peace”
  9. “I am realistic – I expect miracles.”
  10. “You have everything you need for complete peace and total happiness right now.”
  11. “In any relationship in which two people become one, the end result is two half people.”
  12. “Loving people live in a loving world, hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world.”
  13. “Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice.”
  14. “The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don’t know anything about.”
  15. “I would rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I’m not.”
  16. “I am thankful to all those who said no. It’s because of them, I did it myself.”
  17. “Go for it now. The future is promised to no one.”
  18. “You get treated in life the way you teach people to treat you.”
  19. “Present-moment living, getting in touch with your now, is at the heart of effective living. When you think about it, there really is no other moment you can live. Now is all there is, and the future is just another present moment to live when it arrives.”
  20. “Begin with the end in mind. Start with the end outcome and work backwards to make your dream possible.”
  21. “Love is co-operation rather than competition.”
  22. “It’s never crowded along the extra mile.”
  23. “When you have the choice between being right and being kind just choose kind.”
  24. “The more you see yourself as what you’d like to become, and act as if what you want is already there, the more you’ll activate those dormant forces that will collaborate to transform your dream into your reality.”
  25. “There is no stress in the world, only people thinking stressful thoughts.”
  26. “Upon awakening, let the words Thank You flow from your lips, for this will remind you to begin your day with gratitude and compassion.”
  27. “Once you believe in yourself
and see your soul as divine and precious,
    you’ll automatically be converted
to a being who can create miracles.”

Hope Dr.Dyer’s wisdom will always accompany and inspire you in your daily routine.
And I’m sure the world will never forget such a great man.
